I am so glad she shared her story. I've not personally dealt with losing a child but have witnessed many who have watched their own struggle with drugs and other issues. WOW! This book takes you through the raw emotion roller coaster and thought processes of a REAL mother who has EXPERIENCED FIRST HAND the loss of a child! The real struggles she felt as she was trying to deal with the hurt, pain, and guilt are expressed in a manner that will help others cope with their own circumstances of losing a loved one (especially a child)! I personally love the way she uses her experiences to help others!!!!! Love, love, love!!!!
This is a powerful, no nonsense book about the death of a loved one, in this case, the death of a child. Grief is not easy and I like that the author doesn't romanticize it into something that it isn't. This book, while dealing with a devastating topic, manages to give hope to those who are going through similar situations. Well written, powerful, and a great read. I would definitely suggest it to my friends.
This is a very honest, personal account of a mother's journey through her grieving process. I felt like I was watching it all unfold right before my eyes as if I was actually there, and I couldn't help but feel all the emotions that Shelly was going through. I truly can't explain in words how much this book as affected me. Thank you, Shelly, for sharing your innermost personal thoughts and feelings with all of us. Amanda will never be forgotten ((HUGS)).
Wow. I'm going to keep this simple. Poignant. Heartrending. Full of tears and full of hope. The writing makes you feel like you are a bystander watching it all unfold. You feel the author's grief and heartbreak, yet you feel her faith throughout, even when she is struggling with what her faith means to her. I'm getting ready to read it again, it's that powerful. I must read for all but especially if you are looking for someone who "gets it" during your own grief. Must read.
While I was there at the "beginning" of her story on that fateful day, I never really knew "the whole story" until reading her well-written blog in book form. Of course there is a certain amount of repetition, since the raw emotions of grief happen every day, and over and over, but her honesty about what she was feeling can hopefully be helpful to someone else who is experiencing similar tragedy. Although the title suggests that her faith might have faltered, the book was an inspiration to me in that her refuge was always in the Lord and she came to an even deeper commitment through working through her grief and putting it all at God's feet. Just now took the time to read this book and intend to share as I know so many that need to read these words and know they are not alone in their experiences with their children or loved ones. There is no perfect parent or perfect child. But the love this family has for one another and that they share with others is true and honest. I must admit I had mixed feelings of reading this all..so personal and although I've followed Shelly's story and tried to be there for her virtually I had no idea the depth of her feelings. I don't think any of us could know or imagine. At times I felt like I was reading private thoughts and had violated her privacy but I believe that raw honesty is what needs to be shared so that we could have just an inclination of what she and Tim have experienced. I truly believe that God has a greater purpose on this tragedy and that by sharing her story Shelly is living into that plan. I am so thankful she's shared and even more thankful that I was blessed to know sweet Amanda for some of the time that she blessed this earth. I saw the light of God in her and I hope her light and this story will bring comfort to many.
My heart breaks for this dear family in the loss of their beloved daughter. As the book was the author's own personal blog, it unfolds in real time relative to the roller coaster of grief emotions she experienced, and is a hard book to read due to that. Be prepared to cry throughout. Yet I was amazed at the depth of faith Shelly Ford has shown through this tragedy and portrayed through this book. I know it will help many who have experienced loss and point us all towards a strengthening of our faith in God. I highly recommend this book and believe it will bless many.
